"Now for something really special... Chris Summerlin's debut album under the boastfully ironic pseudonym "The Last of the Real Hardmen" follows six years of releasing lathe-cut vinyl and hand-crafted cdrs that got circulated to no more than a small circle of fans. The rich tapestry of work on offer and the perfectly measured narrative are so complete, however, that this might have easily been a weathered third or fourth disc rather than the usually excitable and slightly haphazard first. Summerlin is a virtuoso guitarist and lays down his electric guitar patterns with drums, field recordings and the occasional bottleneck to provide depth and variation. Instrumental music can be hard to keep interesting and this is where Summerlin's skill really kicks in, injecting his form of purist instrumental music with nods towards the solitary genius of John Fahey merged with the full-bodied widescreen emitions of Tortoise - a combination that comes across as otherworldy and timeless with the same inspired stroke. The lovely folks at Birdwar have also included 6 tracks from Summerlin's ultra-limited lathe cut 10" originally released on Lone Hand recordings and faultlessly add to the mass of this almost worryingly beautiful album. Followers of evocative, haunting instrumental music will need to check this out without delay. Essential purchase"

Recorded and mixed on a cassette 4 track in one week in February 2004 in Forest Fields, Notts, UK.
Mastered with help from Phill Rodgers and Neil Wells.

Originally released as a CDR in 2004. Reissued by Bird War Records on CD in 2006 (catalogue number BWR002) with 6 bonus songs from a limited edition lathe-cut 10" on Lone Hand Recordings.

The bonus songs are included in the download price or can be downloaded separately (see main page).
